Logan & Finley Community Profile - The Life & Style of Interesting People. This week's instalment is from someone I think you all know...I thought I would try to answer these questions myself.
1. How would you define your lifestyle?
My lifestyle now is very different with a small business than it was before, but I try to live a healthy lifestyle by eating well, sleeping well and trying to get some fresh air every day. I don’t have a lot of personal time, but will hope to carve out more time soon for more physical activity and creative time.
2. Is spending time in nature important to you? Tell us why!
I actually believe it’s essential. There’s something about nature that helps keep me grounded, curious and inspired. The shapes and colours, sounds and smells are very comforting to me when I need a quiet balance to my busy, social life.
3. On a scale between 1-10, how ‘Green’ would you say you are?
I think I am likely a six. I eat take out more often than I used to and don’t enjoy all the extra packaging that often comes with this and I use too much water....my shower and bath time are one of my favourite luxuries.
( since this was written, I have significantly reduced my take out & try to use my own containers when I do)
4. What excites you about choosing a sustainable lifestyle?
I feel like I am wasting less and being more thoughtful about what I am consuming. And, I want to believe that my small steps and the ones I support other people taking will add up to help us deliver a beautiful natural world to our future generations.
5. Was there an ‘aha’ moment you recall where you realized you wanted to put more effort towards sustainable living?
I think this is really at the core of who I am and how I was raised, but I have a lot of allergies and I don’t enjoy how I feel on medication, so when I cleaned up the products I was using in my home for cleaning and personal care, I noticed that I felt better and when I started to really pay attention to what was in some of the food that was easy to eat when I traveled more, I cleaned up my diet and felt better as well. I also learned a lot about fabrics and fibres and how things are made during my career and decided that I preferred a simple versatile wardrobe of natural fibres – and when I found out that you could also be stylish and wear these things too….I decided it was time for Logan & Finley, so that I could share this with others.
6. If you were to give advice to others about embarking on a ‘greener’ life and style, where/how would you tell them to start?
I think people have to be ready to make a change and when they are a few of my favourite things to show them in the shop are natural deodorant that actually works as well other personal care products they use every day – sometimes using the right products mean you use less and enjoy them more. Also I am a little obsessed with food storage, both on the less waste and the keeping your food fresher longer and I have some key basics on the wardrobe building side of things that I like to help people discover – and great laundry technique and products help keep your clothing beautiful longer to you can get much more use from it.
7. What are you passionate about? Where do you find inspiration?
I really like making people happy. I also love introducing people to great products that I think they will actually enjoy using and I feel a bit like Miss Congeniality here – but I would like us all to work together to be more supportive and generous with our fellow human beings so that we can all live with a bit more peace in our daily lives and believe the ripple out effect of this can create a difference.
