from the Spring/Summer 2022 Collection: Tennis Sweater & Parlor Short
As part of our Series: The Life & Style of Interesting People, we interviewed Megan Duffield of Made in Canada Sustainable Clothing Brand Duffield Design:
Q/ How would you define your lifestyle?
A/ Right now, I’m working on simplifying my life: Getting back to basics and nourishing who I am through being active, eating well and finding joy in the beauty of life. Being true to who I am and following my heart has recently led me down a new path of self-discovery. So, I guess you could say my lifestyle has in some ways dramatically shifted in the last few months but now settling into who I feel I really am and it feels like a simple and profound shift.
Q/ Is spending time in nature important to you? Tell us why!
A/ Absolutely! Nature completes my life. I grew up in a rural setting outside of Ottawa and was constantly outside. Being close to nature has always been a very important part of my life.
Q/ On a scale between 1-10, how ‘Green’ would you say you are?
A/ 7.5.. I feel there is always so much room for improvement. I have a wonderful friend who lives off grid and reflects a level of respect and balance with their environment that is both inspiring and humbling. Just when I think I’m doing my best someone quietly shows me a better way just by living their values. I realize not everyone can live that way but we can all try to do our best given our personal situations.
Q/ What excites you about choosing a sustainable lifestyle?
A/ Living consciously, because that’s what I believe it comes down to. Making an effort to live in a way that’s aligned with my true values. It’s a way of connecting more deeply with myself and honouring my inner knowing & truth. It’s a reflection of how I want to show up in the world.
Q/ Was there an ‘aha’ moment you recall where you realized you wanted to put
more effort towards sustainable living?
A/ I think that moment came when I was first doing research for my business. That’s when I really realized how much harm was being done by the fashion industry globally. I had a moment where I thought to myself, “Wow! I don’t want to be part of the problem and I want to try and offer a solution.” I wanted to bring an alternative so people can choose what they want
to support. That’s when things really started to shift for me. I was 23 years old.
Megan joined us for an Instagram Live and shared so many great nuggets about the S22 Collection and her brand. Watch it here!
Q/ If you were to give advice to others about embarking on a ‘greener’ life and
style, where/how would you tell them to start.
A/ Asking yourself what’s important to you? Where do your values lie? Start with what you are most passionate about and make the changes from there. Once you start it’s kind of a gateway into a higher level of being, thinking and living. I feel like everything starts to shift from there.
Q/ What are you passionate about? Where do you find inspiration?
A/ In nature, just being in nature inspires me. I find it’s beauty humbling. Nobody does it better than Mother Nature when it comes to design, colour, and creativity.
Q/ How did you hear about Logan and Finley?
A/ I came across Logan & Finley when we were doing research to find the perfect vendors to carry Duffield Design. Independent boutiques that held the same or similar values to our own. I happened to be visiting my clothing manufacturer in Toronto pre-covid, and I was walking down the street at night. I stopped in front of Logan and Finley and thought it would be the perfect boutique to carry Duffield Design! The rest is history.
Q/ What place do you think Logan and Finley has in helping Torontonians live a
greener life and style?
A/ By offering an alternative to conventional products and by living your values which of course inspires people in a wonderful way to live greener.
